Intuitive Eating with Diabetes

 

Description: In Intuitive Eating with Diabetes participants who struggle with their relationship with food and the emotional impact of managing diabetes will learn Intuitive Eating and Mindfulness skills. This class is a practical mind-body approach that is intended to help participants create a healthy relationship with food, mind and body. Intuitive Eating is a nutrition philosophy based on the premise that becoming more in touch with the body’s signals of hunger, fullness and satisfaction, are a more effective way to manage eating and overall health than following a strict diet plan. Mindfulness meditation and relaxation exercises are practiced throughout the length of the group and help participants remain in the present moment and learn stress reduction techniques.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain strategies to cope with anxiety, depression, stress fear and guilt around managing diabetes
  • Understand how negative attitudes towards diabetes can impact self care
  • Learn the 10 principles of intuitive eating to help guide you towards a more peaceful relationship with food and your body
  • Identify your habits and patterns of eating
  • Learn simple yet powerful strategies for knowing when, what, and how much to eat without following a strict diet
  • Develop powerful patterns of thinking
  • Learn mindfulness based stress reduction techniques in a supportive setting

 

Mode: 

  • FIRST AND LAST CLASSES are IN-PERSON at 790 Bay St. Suite 508, Toronto, Ontario M5G 1N8
  • WEEKS 2-5 are VIRTUAL on Zoom for Healthcare

Length: 6 weeks (2.5 hours once a week)

Maximum Class Size: 10

Group Leaders: Registered Diabetes Dietitian and Registered Social Workers
