Virtual Trauma Group

Description: This group is for participants who have experienced trauma and who struggle with the ongoing impacts of trauma. Trauma responses are physiological in nature. When they kick in, people often feel very overwhelmed by emotions and body sensations, and our “thinking brain” is overridden by a part of our brain wired to respond to threat. For folks who have experienced trauma, many different things in one’s life, including thoughts/memories, can activate these trauma responses and this can be very distressing. Further, individuals may struggle with persistent discomfort/pain in their body related to chronic activation of trauma responses. This group uses a bottom-up approach, focusing on creating a sense of familiarity and safety with one’s body, sensations, and trauma responses.

  • Develop an understanding of one’s stress and trauma responses
  • Increase body awareness and practice body-oriented skills
